Stroud in Bloom

About Us

Stroud is a small town in the Cotswolds set at the junction of five valleys.  The Stroud in Bloom committee was formed in 1990 by a small band of volunteers who aimed to make Stroud a better place to live, work and visit.  We seek to encourage not only the provision of floral displays but also to improve all aspects of the local environment.  For example by the planting of trees, the maintenance and improvement of wildlife areas and the removal of litter.  Our focus is the annual visit of the Royal Horticultural Society's judges from Heart of England in Bloom.  Their visit gives all those involved the incentive to have the town looking clean, free of weeds and full of flowers as we aim for the coveted gold award.  It is also an opportunity for the judges to meet representatives of the many individuals and organisations whose efforts support our ongoing work.

The Team

The committee work closely with Stroud Town Council whose staff, both in the office and working in the parks and gardens, are supportive of what we are trying to achieve.  We also cooperate with other groups such as Stroud Valleys Project, The Chamber of Trade and the Hospital League of Friends.  We have a band of volunteers who plant and care for odd plots of land around the town which would otherwise become weedy and litter strewn.  It is truly a community effort.
